Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

Inspiration comes in many forms on the farm. It’s participating in a complete circle from growth of grass, to birth of cows, to making cheese. The cheesemaking process is part art, science and magic and it requires focus. No two days are the same and I learn something new daily, which motivates me to keep improving my skills. Building relationships with customers is rewarding because I’m making products that can be part of someone’s daily life as well as special celebrations.

How do you stay motivated?

The great thing about a food based business is that my customers give me instant feedback. I want people to want my products not only because of how they taste, but also because of the care with which they are produced. I love sharing the story of the farm and demonstrating how each year improvements are made for the welfare of the livestock and the land. As the farm grows, we’re committed to increasing donations to the local food banks, providing high quality foods to our neighbors.

What would you do with the $25,000?

This year marks the 14th year in business and aside from the website and social media, I do no advertising. With an award, I’d rebrand to unify our identity as producers of high quality, farmstead products. I would source more environmentally friendly packaging. I would create labels that tell a story, and inspire customers. I want customers to be not strangers, but partners. An award would help build stronger connections between us and the community.
