Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My inspiration comes from sharing the authentic flavors of African cuisine and a taste of home with my community. In 2019, I began this journey as a catering business, serving events throughout Illinois and near by states. Over time, we expanded into a full-service restaurant that has become a destination for customers who often travel up to an hour to experience our dishes. As a family-run business, I am proud to work alongside my 11 children, who contribute where they can.

How do you stay motivated?

I stay motivated by seeing the positive impact our restaurant and catering services have on the community and the growing appreciation for African cuisine. Many customers express gratitude for having something different in the area, and for some it’s their first time trying African food. Hearing how our dishes bring joy and create memorable experiences inspires me daily.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The $25,000 would be used to expand our restaurant’s capacity and upgrade kitchen equipment. When we started, limited funds meant we couldn’t invest in all essential kitchen equipment, which these funds would help address. Additionally, we have an extra room that we are working to transform into a small venue for events, and this would help make that vision a reality. The funds will also support marketing efforts to ensure long-term growth and visibility.
