Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My inspiration for my business is the community that I was blessed to be brought up with. Various hairstylists and mentors poured into me when I was in my teen years. I now see a gap in my industry where there is no pathway from passion to career for the young hairstylist. At my salon, staff are trained, motivated and encouraged to see themselves as a licensed professionals. We partner with schools in our local community to provide hands on experience for cosmetology students.

How do you stay motivated?

I often create time to speak at local schools about my career and what options there are for cosmetologists. This helps me stay motivated as I am able to meet young and eager stylists. Staying involved in my industry also keeps me motivated. I make time to learn new trends and techniques in order to train my staff.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With this funding we will be able to broaden out reach and open more salons in the DMV area to help stylists establish themselves in the industry. The money would fund training, salaries and marketing. Our current model is that for every $30,000 we can establish a new location and employ 6-12 more stylists.
