Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

I was inspired to become an advocate in birth work after my own pregnancy experience. I was newly married, young, and unexpectedly pregnant. Thankfully, I had individuals that introduced me to alternative care through midwifery and doula services. I was inspired and supported by these women who surrounded me as I gave birth on my 24th birth to our firstborn son. I was grateful that my husband and I were so properly prepared and cared for that I wanted to be an extension of that to my community.

How do you stay motivated?

In a field with long hours and zero scheduling, motivation is of the upmost importance for sustainability. My faith in God and devotion to prayer and study of His word keep my grounded. Surrounding myself with life givers like friends from church, the gym, and colleagues within the birth work community is key. I also believe in being a life long learner and continually look for opportunities to grow in my skills and sit under the teaching of those more experienced in my field.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My desire is to increase access to doula services in my community and the state of Alabama. My passion is supporting sustainable doula practices for more long term, experienced birth workers. I would use this funding to help support efforts for doula access and fund their services to support those in most need in Alabama.
