Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My inspiration in business comes from living out my faith by serving others. After 20 years in the Army, I found a new way to continue that mission through food—using barbecue as a way to show care, build community, and make people feel seen and supported.

How do you stay motivated?

I stay motivated by remembering why I serve. My Army career taught me discipline, resilience, and purpose. Now I channel that same drive into my business—showing up for my community, creating meaningful experiences through food, and knowing each day is a chance to make a positive impact.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to strengthen Blue Suede BBQ’s operations and community impact. I pledge to donate 25% between the Live Like Lou Foundation (livelikelou.org), local non-profits, and faith-based organizations committed to improving the lives of others. The remaining will be used to upgrade equipment, expanding production of our mission-driven sauces, improving our mobile setup for large events, and creating jobs that helps us serve more families, veterans, and local partners.
