Who or what is your inspiration in business?

This small historic southern town, with a population under 5,000 on the Albemarle Sound reminds me of the perfect 'Halmark Movie' where everyone says hello as you walk down the street. I capture their American stories. I started my 16 page-four color paper 18 months ago to spread 'good news' about the arts, historic preservation efforts and profile the people who are making a difference. How do you stay motivated?

It's not hard to stay motivated in a town that is so positive about their lives. There are always a number of event each week including art gallery shows, boating on the bay, a charming downtown with unique shops and a proactive town government that encourages involvement. Most everyone in town volunteers and is part of building a strong community and making a positive difference.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I self-publish the publication. I would expand my reach past downtown into the county, possibly assist other towns around Eastern NC. This would include adding more news boxes, larger print runs, expand online, grow the business. In a world where small local papers hardly exist, it's important to build back 'sustainable small town America'. It's the heart and sole of our country and we are loosing it. Potential model for other small towns. I am "Main Street' Edenton Champion for 2025.
