Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My inspiration is my grandfather. He was a school teacher, principal, and baseball coach for over 32 years in the community. He knew everyone by name, took time to speak and connect with each person he encountered, and was dedicated to helping others. He raised me when my young mother needed the help, and so I strive every day to live up to the quality of character that he was known for. His memory inspires me every single day.

How do you stay motivated?

Motivation is only difficult when your focus is directed on your self. This is what I have learned! When you focus your efforts towards being of service to your community, there’s no need to “find” motivation. It compels your actions, and you show up every day with enthusiasm and joy.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I wish that I had a more exciting answer to this. Truthfully, I would pay off expenses that I’ve incurred in moving the cafe to its permanent home. We were shut down for a little over a month to do so, and that takes a toll. Paying off these expenses would allow me to implement the social groups and activities that I’ve been working on — for mothers circles, seniors, teenagers, and musicians in the community. That’s where my heart lies — in bringing people together.
