Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My inspiration stems from my journey through recovery and a stubborn belief in the goodness of humanity. Every day, people inspire me, especially those facing their inner battles and doing the hard work of growth. It's the collective good of humanity we all stand on, not its darkness. Being a book lover helps: "If you want new ideas, read an old book."

How do you stay motivated?

Lacking motivation is crippling, but relying on it is a myth. True vision and self-control come from something deeper: acceptance of self, others, and reality, fueled by a human flame to create and love. When aligned, motivation naturally flows. I rely on daily disciplines to pull me from my comfortable path onto the right one. When I do need a push, it comes from my spirituality, the people around me who kick my butt, and my kids—who I am still trying to make things right by.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in the business, build necessary infrastructure, and market the products and services that the last two years—and 40 years of life—have produced. The goal is to get my business self-sustaining so I can make more progress and reach more people. I also have plenty of personal goals to tackle along the way, and I'd probably buy a few good books.
