Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My inspiration is my grandmother, Doris Jean, who was a breast cancer survivor. She overcame her diagnosis and so much more - she truly lived life to the fullest. Every woman should have that opportunity. Because 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and because it is the 2nd leading cause of death for women in the US, we need to do more. We don't need to lose a grandmother, mother, best friend, aunt, or teacher to this condition when a simple mammogram can save that life.

How do you stay motivated?

I stay motivated by talking about my concerns and my fears with those around me. Entrepreneurship is hard. No, it's beyond hard. You put everything on the line. But you do it because you know you are making a difference. The Boob Bus has created amazing jobs for some amazing people. It's saved lives, and it gives me purpose. It is also an amazing launchpad for conversation - anyone who sees the bus is drawn to it, and it prompts important discussion about preventative healthcare.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The prize would be crucial - it would communicate to us that our work, our efforts, and our sleepless nights are all worth it. That we are seen. The prize would enable us to improve our reach. We have yet to invest in an intentional, strategic marketing campaign. Additionally, the worst thing I have to do is turn women away for ability to pay. We want to serve more uninsured women but need to ensure we are covering our costs, including travel to rural communities that lack assess to mammograms.
