Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My kids are my greatest inspiration. Bode+Ev, named after them, represented by the birds in my logo that symbolize freedom, transformation, and the courage to follow your purpose, even when the path is uncertain. I want them to grow up seeing that resilience, hard work, and belief in yourself can turn even the hardest moments into something meaningful. Every challenge I’ve faced fuels my determination to keep going and show them that with courage and perseverance, anything is possible.

How do you stay motivated?

I stay motivated knowing the way my candles and products make people feel. I love watching someone pause, smile, and take in the scent or feel of a product as it brings them back to a person, place, or a special moment in time. When someone leaves a review, sends me a message, or tells me in person how something I created made them feel comforted, relaxed, nostalgic, or simply happy, it reminds me why I started and why I continue to pour my heart into every product I make.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the recent closure of Painted Tree, which impacted not only my business but so many others, my vision for the prize has evolved. I plan to open a candle-making studio and artisan boutique—a permanent home for Bode+Ev and a space where local makers can thrive. It will be a place for community, connection, and creativity through hands-on workshops and meaningful shopping experiences.
