Connect Who or what is your inspiration in business?

My cultural heritage; the Kikuyu people are vey entrepreneurial. I grew up seeing both my parents' endeavors in business, and this ignited and grew my love for business. At 10, I had my first business leasing out my collection of fiction novels to neighborhood kids. Thereafter, I grew and sold produce at my local village farmers market, as well as old newspapers to shop owners. In the USA, I own and run a food and beverage company; Spice of Africa, that ships donated books to Kenya.

How do you stay motivated?

Living organically, authentically, and creatively, as much as I can, in order to empower and transform the lives of others. I use my own method of PPFFAR; personal, professional, finance, faith and results to always determine my next five steps. When I see people benefitting and getting results from environments that I have created; be it a cooking, or swimming class, or employed by my food business, it motivates and pushes me to continuously inspire others to reach their highest potential.

What would you do with the $25,000?

The funds will be contributed to our Community Based Organization; Gachie Development Center. We currently need $27K to dig a water borehole. Water service is unreliable, at once a week. Large amounts of water are needed to construct the swimming pool and food service kitchen. It will be the first ever pool in the village. Currently, school children are bussed to other areas, at considerable expense and time. The community center will open programs to community members.
